News from the Blooming Grove ISD Superintendent’s Office – May 29, 2015

Greetings,

Next week will the concluded the 2014-2015 school year.  As we look forward to the coming school year we anticipate changes within the school district to be able to address the ever changing educational system of today.  On Thursday, I had the awesome opportunity to attend both the Senior Luncheon at First Baptist Church and the Scholarship Awards Program at the high school.  I was very much impressed with the fact that there was over $400,000 in scholarship dollars given out to students in the Class of 2015.  I want to extend my personal thank you to the First Baptist Church for the lunch and for all the many donors of the scholarships that were presented on Thursday.

High School Graduation

The decision was made to move high school graduation into the gym, due to the projected weather forecast and also even if it is not raining we will be infested by mosquitoes and the humidity will be intolerable.  Based on the capacity of the gym we are issuing to each Senior 8 tickets to hand out to family for admittance into the graduation ceremony.  We are exploring the option of an overflow area at the auditorium.

Associates Degree

We have put into place a program for the upcoming 8th graders and this year’s 9th graders.  The program that is being implemented will allow students who meet the criteria to begin taking dual credit college classes their 9th and 10th grade year with the goal being that when these students graduate from high school, not only will they have a high school diploma, but if the student completes the program they will also receive an associate degree from Navarro College.

Spring Events

As we wind down the school year I wanted to provide everyone with some dates of importance:

  • June 1st FFA Banquet 6:30 PM at the Navarro College
  • June 2nd Jr High Awards Program at 9:00 a.m. in the auditorium
  • June 3-5 will be Early Release Days.
  • June 4th Elementary Awards Program 8:30 a.m., High School Awards Program at 10:00 a.m. in the auditorium, and then 8th Grade Graduation in the gym at 7:00 p.m.
  • June 5th High School Graduation in the gym at 8:00 p.m.

Starting next school year once we have the website reconstructed you will have access to a ‘live’ calendar that will have all the school events listed on the calendar.

I want to thank everyone for their continued warm welcome to me and my family as we become members of your community.  As always I wanted to remind you if you ever have any issues or concerns, please contact me.

Thanks,

mhs
